Promoting China’s Renewable Energy (RE) Investment in Southeast Asia Roundtable - Philippines in Focus

MJA supported World Resources Institute China and the China New Energy International Alliance (CNEIA) to hold a roundtable in Manila, Philippines as part of the China-ASEAN Dialogue Series to hold important discussions on the current status, ongoing challenges, and future prospects on renewable energy (RE) development in the Philippines, sharing China’s knowledge and experiences in renewable energy finance in the process. The roundtable was also held to scope out opportunities to build partnerships and promote cooperation among leading renewable energy stakeholders in the Philippines, and China-based State- owned Enterprises (SOEs) to leverage financing resources for boosting RE investment in the Philippines and beyond.

The team retreat delved into WRI's 5-year energy strategy, emphasizing the critical role of the region in the organization's success, and focused on fostering a culture of respect, transparency, and effectiveness, with sessions designed to enhance team collaboration and communication. Discussions on what excites the team about the next five years, defining WRI's value proposition, and aligning strategies for impactful interventions were also tackled during the retreat. The retreat wrapped up on the third day, capturing key takeaways and outlining the next steps to ensure the successful implementation of the discussed strategies, reinforcing the team's commitment to driving the energy transition in Southeast Asia.

MJA supported WRI and the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator in the logistics of hosting a side event to ACEF on "Innovative Solutions for the Energy Transition in Asia." The session highlighted business models and purchasing mechanisms that have been advanced across the region to accelerate private sector support for the clean energy transition, including aggregated rooftop solar procurement processes in Vietnam as well as emerging efforts to explore industrial clean heat across the region.

MJA supported WRI China to host a hybrid webinar and gather over 70 experts and stakeholders in Philippines and China to discuss innovative financing models in the Philippines and case studies to empower Chinese investors to invest in the country's rooftop solar. The webinar aims to facilitate deployment of financing packages supported by Chinese manufacturers or EPC companies, alongside a trusted network of Southeast Asian partners, with the goal of deploying gigawatts (GW) of rooftop solar capacity in Southeast Asian countries within this decade.

MJA supported CEIA to host the "Technical Consultation Encourage Expanded Clean Energy Retail Choice in the Philippines" in a hybrid format. The event featured the findings of two separate White Papers developed by the CEIA and GWEC and provided a valuable platform for the Department of Energy Renewable Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to share their proposed actions to address corresponding opportunities, benefits, and concerns.

The event sought to to facilitate cross-regional cooperation and knowledge exchange on mainstreaming agrivoltaics.
